More on Crime in Towne Park

Elyte Security, the security company for Towne Park, can be reached at (505) 323-9122.

On October 19, there was a community meeting to discuss Security in Towne Park. We had two police officials from the Foothills Police Substation at the meeting, Sharanne Fisher, who handles Neighborhood Watch, and Officer Christian Baker. They spoke to the attendees for over an hour and answered many questions.

Please keep checking this section for the latest information on Neighborhood Watch. In the meantime, please contact the office, 291-8379, where we are displaying a Towne Park map and will fill in folks interested in becoming Block Captains, a procedure which the Crime Prevention Specialist at the Foothills Substation will supervise.

The idea is to get Towne Park covered, working with our neighbors to protect us all. The program will be run out of the Towne Park office so we can have one overall coordination point. The TPHOA Security Chair will be the coordinator with the Crime Prevention Specialist.

There were several different handouts available at the meeting, copies are available in the Towne Park Office.

Here is a summary of tips from the meeting:

  • Be careful who you let into Towne Park (Police have their own code)
  • Delay your entry/exit enough so gate closes behind you.
  • Report Incidents/Burglaries to 242-COPS. The Police need Reports!
  • Report Incidents/Burglaries to the Towne Park Office, 291-8379. No addresses or names will be used further, only Street name and summary. Facts are hard to come by if you don't report the incident to the office, and you will help your neighbors.
  • If you leave your car parked in your driveway, remove clickers/cards and garage openers! Consider an additional vehicle security device, such as those which lock the steering wheel.
  • Outside lighting is always good (the Towne Park lighting is being worked on)
  • Do not leave your garage door open, even a little bit! Perpetrators can force open garage doors with as little as a 2-inch opening. You may think you are the only one affected but you are hurting your neighbors if you do this, as they become targets as well by their proximity.
  • Lock your car even in your Garage–why make it easy for anyone!
  • If you leave your windows open at night, consider a device which will set off an alarm if the window is opened further (Swege is one highly-rated brand–also for sliding glass doors).
  • Ensure windows and doors are locked. Have sliding glass doors fixed so they cannot be lifted off their rails, or cannot be opened.
  • Look at your home from a burglar's point of view.
  • Get copies of "Residential Burglary Prvention" and "Auto Theft Prevention" handouts from the Towne Park Office.
  • LOOK OUT FOR YOUR NEIGHBOR!
  • Keep checking this web page for updates on Security issues.
  • Stay tuned for information on the coming Neighborhood Watch Program.
  • Pick up copies of Neighborhood Watch and Burglary and Auto Theft Prevention information at the office.
  • Go online, and enter a Search engine for "Burglary Prevention" or similar subjects. There is lots of helpful information online.
  • Use common sense. Call 911. Do not leave messages at the office if you have an emergency.

Our board, as well as our Towne Park residents, is concerned with the recent spate of burglaries, which in one or two cases could well be classified as home invasions as residents were sleeping when perpetrators got into the home. The Towne Park Security Company, ADC, has been actively involved in Security Meetings, and we have been in close touch with the Albuquerque Police Department Foothills Substation, including Captain Levi Anaya and other officers. The guard has been instructed not to wave people in whether or not they are recognized. The guard does not authorize entrance to visitors, that is strictly up to residents.

Towne Park used to have an organized Neighborhood Watch, some years ago. We are going to start one again, it is a proven fact that it helps. Research and conversations with original residents reveals that there have been several spates of crime within Towne Park over the years (entrance Gates were not originally installed). We hope to solve the current spate of these burglaries (and two car thefts), and we also want the entire community to be involved in PREVENTION!

P.S. The Gates are a priority item...they are corroded and parts are hard to come by.
